The Tekin RX8 Gen 3 is the flagship ESC from Tekin – is this any better than the Gen 2 version?
Tekin RX8 Gen 3 ESC Features
This is Tekin’s flagship, top of the line, highest amperage ESC on the market. The Tekin RX8 Gen 3 brings bigger power handling capabilities and increased reliability to 1/8 Scale Racing, with professional features including a programmable high voltage BEC, data logging capabilities, timing profiles, voltage cutoffs for LiPos, HotWire 3.0 Bluetooth connectivity and more.
The RX8 runs both Sensored and Sensorless motor drives seamlessly, giving you the best of both worlds. It works with 2S-6S LiPo batteries or 4 – 16S NiMH-NiCD batteries.

Compared to the Gen 2 which was rated at 210 Amps, whereas the Gen 3 is rated at 300 Amps so there is quite a huge improvement in terms of amperage rating. The BEC is still rated the same as the Gen 2, but the RX8 Gen 3 has a new 8 Amp switching mode whereas the Gen 2 was 7 Amps.
Lastly, the other difference is the dimension – the Gen 3 is wider than the Gen 2 by 1/10th of an inch.
Tekin RX8 Gen 3 ESC Review
There is a mod and an increase button to manually program your Tekin RX8 Gen 3 ESC. Between there is a series of LED lights with all the different features. Another great option with the RX8 Gen 3 is the HotWire 3.0 adapter that lets you connect to your smartphone via Bluetooth capability.
There is a sensored plug if you want to run sensored motors, as well as a fan port to plug your fan in or opt for a HotWire connection up to your laptop or to hook up the new HotWire 3.0 Bluetooth adapter to program with your smartphone or tablet.
The case design has also been improved to reduce stress on the circuit boards that can cause broken solder joints and cracked components. The Rx8 Gen 3 also already has an extremely effective heatsink that allows it to not need a fan in almost all cases. It does not need the extra heatsink from the AL housing.
The Tekin RX8 Gen 3 is intended for race applications for any 1/8 scale RC vehicles. It can handle almost any motor on the planet and has the power to do so. Unfortunately, the Tekin RX8 Gen 3 is not waterproof as this is a race application ESC and typically races are never run in water or rain. Check out the Tekin RX4 for a waterproof ESC.
The Tekin RX8 Gen 3 is meant to go fast, hard, and it can definitely perform up to the highest level.
